Me Before You

Here’s a short spiel for today.

This movie brings me to absolute tears every time I watch it, but in the best way possible. I think one reason I love it so much is that it has a realistic ending where life is messy and imperfect. It never fails to remind me that we all have a choice, even if it is one that no one else around you wants or likes. We choose how we want to live, what we want to put up with and not, what we want to do for ourselves and others. We have freedom. This can be a dangerously beautiful thing. Along with us always having a choice, that parallels that everyone else does too. They have the right to choose how they want to live and who they want to be. Often times, their choices will not be what we want. There will be times when it will be. There will be times where they choose to end a relationship that has lasted for years. They choose to give up on themselves. They will choose to go on a different path than you, leading you two to part ways. They will choose what makes them happy and what they should live for- what their purpose in life should be. While you may not agree with every single little thing they do does not mean that you cannot love them. You can love them with your entire being and heart. Opinions exist. They are good, healthy, and needed for change to exist. They bring clarity to the confusion. I’ve always hated it when people disagree with me, but I need to realize that it’s okay. It does not make them any less of a person. They may have chosen something for a reason I don’t necessarily understand. At the end of the day, I need to love, embrace, and cherish them for who they are. Differences and individuality are a marvelous thing. Love binds us together through all of the differences that come in this thing we call life. Love is the essential answer to the missing part of the equation. This movie reminds me that we are all human and things are not going to go our way. We are going to break and crack but mold as well. We are going to be shaped through our trials and tribulations, bringing us with a new pair of goggles on how we view life. Despite every downfall that may arise, whether from an action you did or the result of someone else, we will be shaped. It will create in us a greater sense of compassion, empathy, and understanding. A greater love. I sincerely urge myself and you to remember that.

P.S. I tried to not give any spoilers away, but I would 10/10 recommend watching this beautifully crafted film. Don’t forget the tissues though!
