House Glancing

This is day 2 of walking to and from the library. I love doing it because you gain 3 things from it: 1) exercise outdoors 2) ending up at a place you enjoy and can further your knowledge and education 3) most importantly, house glancing. House glancing is one of my favorite hobbies. Just walking around and looking at the outside of the houses is so much fun. Where I live, each house is different- in paint color, architecture, design, accessories, yard/lawn. I love doing this because you look at the beauty of what someone who designed it thought of as well as the beauty of the homeowner who further personalized it. This house is where someone lives. You can get a sense of what they are like by the way their house is and the decorations around it. It’s like getting a glance into someone’s life as well as imagining what that person is like who lives there. Is it a mother of three? Is it a wise, sweet grandmother? A modern day Brady bunch? That person loves to garden. They must be artistic. The color bottle decorations in that woman’s yard reminds me of the old, wise woman in the movie Winn Dixie. That house has a Texas flag and their college decorations in full. This house is chipped and needs a paint job. You can tell it has been lived in with a story. Many stories for that matter. This other one has a balcony for those to observe from above and relax.  This house has a chair out front for people to look at those passing by and just ponder. That house has a white painted bench on the porch? Did they sit with their children on it growing up having deep and memorable talks about life lessons they learned? What did the valleys and hills of life look like in this house? What did the struggles and joys these people in this house experience? What big moments did they celebrate and small things did they cherish? There are so many things you can gain by looking at a house and imagining for yourself about who might live there and the memories created and manifested in it. House glancing, not only a pastime but a pleasure of enjoyment.
